Our local Ellen

And if you’re wondering who’ll be sharing all these tips with you, meet Ellen! She knows exactly what it’s like to settle in Valencia and loves helping others find their way in this sunny city.

Since when have you been living in Valencia, and what brought you here?
I moved to Valencia in September 2021. The main reason was the climate, but I also completely fell in love with the lifestyle. I love the outdoor way of living and the spontaneous meet-ups with friends.

Which neighbourhood do you live in, and why did you choose it?
I live in the Cabanyal neighbourhood, close to the beach. At first, I didn’t choose this area myself, I moved in with my partner. But it didn’t take long before I fell in love with the neighbourhood too. I love being near the beach, it’s just a 10-minute walk from my home. Compared to areas like Ruzafa, it’s a bit more peaceful, but still full of great restaurants and bars. Some of my favourite spots are La Fábrica de Hielo and Mercader.

What should you absolutely not miss when visiting Valencia?
The city centre with its stunning architecture, the City of Arts and Sciences, and of course the Turia Park, the pride of Valencia. If you’re staying a bit longer, I’d definitely recommend a trip to the Albufera Natural Park to experience a completely different side of Valencia.

Where can you see the most beautiful sunset in the city?
Unfortunately, the sun doesn’t set directly into the sea in Valencia, but there’s still a fantastic place to watch the sunset: the Albufera Natural Park, especially by the Albufera Lake. The time just after sunset is magical too, Valencia often shows off with the most beautiful colours in the sky.

What makes Valencia different from other Spanish cities, in your opinion?
The laid-back atmosphere. Everything here moves at a relaxed pace (sometimes a bit too relaxed when you’re trying to get things done ;)), but overall I really enjoy it. No one here ever seems to be in a rush, and that’s something I love about Valencia.
