Biggest building of CAC
The Museo de las Ciencias Príncipe Felipe is the biggest building of the City of Arts & Sciences and has the shape of a whale skeleton. The building is made out of glass, concrete, and metal and is surrounded by 13.500 m2 of water. This museum has the largest exposition surface of Spain, which is 8000 m2. Santiago Calatrava is the designer of this building and since 2000 the museum has been open to the public.
The museum
Museo de las Ciencias Príncipe Felipe is an interactive museum with the slogan: Forbidden to NOT touch, NOT to feel and NOT to think. The museum has a big exposition room, which is filled with a great collection. Besides that, they also support activities about science and education. The museum teaches everyone about science in a fun way, and gives people a new perspective on science. The museum has some collections that are permanent while other collections are there for a couple of weeks. In the museum you will find Calle Mayor on the main street. This is about bioscience. Planta Baja on the ground floor, which means science on stage. Planta Primera (Showcase of science) is on the first floor, Planta Segunda on the second floor, where you will find Nobel prizes from different centuries and where you can learn more about different Spanish scientists. On the third floor you will find Planta Tecrera, here you will learn about climate change, ‘Space Academy’, Star Trek, and sports science. The museum teaches you more about science in a fun and interactive way, which will show you science from a different side.
Expositions
There are a lot of temporary expositions during the year in and around the museum, which you can visit. On the ground floor you can visit the exposition without a ticket, for the other floors you need to buy a ticket for the museum. Also, around the museum you can visit the expositions for free. The expositions change during the year.
