Discover the City of Arts and Sciences – Valencia’s Futuristic Icon. Curious about Valencia’s most striking landmark, the City of Arts and Sciences (Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències)? Join our licensed local guide, Leonard, for a private walking tour that uncovers both the architectural highlights and the cultural stories behind this awe-inspiring space.

About the City of Arts and Sciences

Located at the eastern end of the Turia Gardens, the CAC is a masterpiece of modern architecture. It features six major buildings:

  • L’Hemisfèric – IMAX cinema and planetarium
  • Museu de les Ciències – interactive science museum
  • Oceanogràfic – Europe’s largest aquarium
  • Palau de les Arts – opera house
  • Umbracle – landscaped walkway with contemporary art
  • Àgora – multi-functional event space

Most of the complex was designed by world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava. If you’ve seen the Oculus at the World Trade Center in New York, you’ve already encountered his visionary style – which originated right here in Valencia. The Oceanogràfic was designed by his mentor, Félix Candela.

This futuristic space opened its first building in 1998 and was completed in 2009. It hosts exhibitions, concerts, science experiences, and daily strolls for locals and visitors alike. With its clean white lines and shimmering blue pools, it’s a place where art, science, and nature intersect beautifully.

About your guide Leonard

Leonard moved to Valencia in 2017 but first visited the City of Arts and Sciences in 2014 – and was immediately captivated. He brings a unique mix of architectural knowledge, storytelling, and cultural perspective to each tour.

“Even after countless visits, I still discover new details that amaze me. Whether it’s the play of sunlight on white concrete or a clever structural trick, this place never stops inspiring.”

Leonard’s favorite part? The Àgora – where soaring steel ribs and open space create a cathedral-like calm. He’ll gladly share how the entire complex reflects Valencia’s ambitious spirit and modern outlook.
